The answer is: You cant. Paint 3D is the stupidest drawing program in the entire world. It cant even pick colors right. Just switch to another cartoon programme.

Simply insert a tranparent grid on tiptop of your work.  Like this 1:  https://www.freeiconspng.com/img/43580

I find that if you lot make your images 3D after y'all insert them you tin easily conform them, select them ane by i or all at once, and move any of them around.  You can make stickers out of them if you want.

You tin notice your copied images in your clipboard history by pressing the Win + V keys.  Y'all tin open more than one Paint 3D project at a time also and copy and paste from one to the other.

I've been making terrific YouTube video thumbnails with the Paint 3D and it's a lot of fun.

And how do I do that since the current version of Paint 3D appears to take NO Full general Help button/? icon/ or anything?

Select "insert" at the left menu to add whatever you lot want. If you desire to overlay something and see through information technology then make sure it's on a transparent background.  Then make it 3D so you can easily remove information technology when y'all are finished with it.

I'm not sure you tin piece of work on objects below the filigree lines however.  If working in 3D yous can pull some objects forward to work on them.  As I recollect I couldn't work on elevation of 3D images until I saved my work as an paradigm.  I had to do some pre-rendering every bit I went along.
